No matter what business event I am at, inevitably the topic of social media comes up. It’s usually me asking someone about connecting on LinkedIn. In most cases the answer is “Sure! That would be great!” But, I am still surprised at the number of people who respond with something like “I really don’t use LinkedIn. I don’t need it.”
To me, that response is a fantastic opportunity to share the “free lunch.” You see, the concept is still applicable even today. While it might not actually be a free lunch, it is a gift – a marketing gift. This “free lunch” is essentially a way to build your visibility with those in your target market:
- It allows you to be everywhere and anywhere.
- To reach key people in your audience.
- Build your credibility as a reliable source of industry information.
- And, most importantly, it builds trust.
Social media is the “free lunch” marketing tool that does all that and more, without costing you a dime. So why then would people decide that they “don’t need it?”
Keep it simple.
